Company registration in Oman sits with the ministry responsible for commerce, which today carries the name Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (وزارة التجارة والصناعة وترويج الاستثمار) and was previously named the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The ministry operates the Oman Business Platform, described on its site as a single window of e-services for the business community, from establishing a new company to licensing activities and submitting annual reports. The Commercial Registry accepts a defined set of entity types: individual firms and merchants, house trade businesses, joint and limited partnerships, limited liability companies, public and closed joint stock companies, branches of foreign companies and commercial representative offices.

A new commercial registration can be completed online when every investor holds a PKI-enabled eID card, or at the ministry's front desk and SANAD service centres. The digitally signed registration certificate issued online is as valid as the one issued at the counter, and branches appear as places of activity on the certificate. Company information is amended through the platform's Update Commercial Registration service, and the platform's own FAQ states that approved changes to company registration data are made publicly available.

Public-facing services on the platform include Search Commercial Registrations, Find Business Information, Search Public Announcements and Request Business Certificates. Liquidations are published in the public announcements and subject to a six-month waiting period before cancellation of the registration.
