About the register

INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property)

Known locally as Institut national de la propriété industrielle (INPI).

Mayotte is a French overseas department, and company registration there is the French national system applied locally. Since 1 January 2023, business formalities in France, Mayotte included, run through the single electronic window and feed the Registre national des entreprises (RNE), the national register operated by INPI, the Institut national de la propriété industrielle. The RNE merged the former national trade and companies, trades and agricultural registers into a single record of every business operating on French territory.

Commercial companies are also entered in the registre du commerce et des sociétés (RCS). For Mayotte the RCS is held at the greffe of the tribunal mixte de commerce de Mamoudzou: the court's official page states that the register of commerce and companies, where merchants are required to register, is kept at that greffe. Under the Code de commerce, the greffe of a tribunal mixte de commerce is held by a commercial court greffier, and the extract it issues is the official proof of registration.

Every registered business carries a nine-digit SIREN number, assigned once by INSEE and never reused, plus a fourteen-digit SIRET per establishment. Beneficial owners are declared to the French register of beneficial owners, and since 31 July 2024, applying the Court of Justice of the European Union ruling of 22 November 2022, access to that data is limited to supervisory authorities, persons subject to anti-money-laundering obligations and persons demonstrating a legitimate interest. Which register holds companies in Mayotte?
Both layers of the French system apply. Since 1 January 2023 every business operating in Mayotte is entered in the Registre national des entreprises, the national register operated by INPI, with formalities filed through the single electronic window. Commercial companies are also registered in the registre du commerce et des sociétés kept at the greffe of the tribunal mixte de commerce de Mamoudzou.
What do company identifiers in Mayotte look like?
The same identifiers as the rest of France. INSEE assigns each legal entity a nine-digit SIREN number, in which the first eight digits carry no meaning and the ninth is a check digit; it is assigned once and never reused. Each establishment carries a fourteen-digit SIRET. INSEE's Sirene repertoire expressly covers the overseas departments, Mayotte among them.
What appears on the registry extract?
The extract issued from the RCS proves the company's registration and sets out its name, SIREN number, legal form, share capital, registered office, detailed activity and the role, name, date of birth, nationality and address of the principal manager, the administrators and the statutory auditors. Does the register publish shareholders or beneficial owners?
No. The register does not make shareholder or beneficial-owner data public. Beneficial owners are declared to the French register of beneficial owners, and since 31 July 2024, following the Court of Justice of the European Union ruling of 22 November 2022, INPI grants access to that data only to the supervisory authorities listed in the Monetary and Financial Code, to persons subject to anti-money-laundering obligations and to persons or organisations demonstrating a legitimate interest.
