About the register

Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)

Companies in Nigeria are registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the agency of government charged with the administration of the Companies and Allied Matters Act. The Commission was originally established by the Companies and Allied Matters Act 1990; that Act was repealed and a new Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) enacted in 2020, preserving the Commission's establishment. Its remit covers the formation, incorporation, management, striking off and winding up of companies, limited liability partnerships and limited partnerships, the registration, management and removal of business names, and the formation, incorporation, management and dissolution of incorporated trustees.

The Commission's services include online and self-service search, certified extracts of certificates and of filed documents, historical search reports, status reports, and the registration of notices of persons with significant control, share allotments and charges.

Beneficial ownership is public in Nigeria. Under CAMA 2020, a person with significant control (PSC) is any person holding, directly or indirectly, not less than 5% of the shares, interest or voting rights, or the right to exercise significant influence or control over a company or limited liability partnership. The Commission operates a dedicated Persons with Significant Control register, built in accordance with the Beneficial Ownership Data Standard, with an online search by entity name, entity number or PSC full name. The Company Records report for Nigeria includes the company profile, the list of officers and the list of persons with significant control sourced from the official register.

Good to know

Nigeria company records — questions

Are these official records?
Yes. Every record is sourced from the official register, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), at the moment you buy. It is registry data only — nothing aggregated, resold, or editorialised.
What exactly is a "Company Record"?
Two things in one purchase: the KYB report (company data, controlling parties, shareholders and beneficial owners) and the standard set of official registry documents needed for AML and KYB compliance.
Can I get additional filing documents?
Every record includes the standard document set for AML and KYB compliance. If you need a document beyond that set, contact us and we'll find out whether the register holds it.
Can I get shareholders and beneficial owners?
Yes. This register publishes shareholder and beneficial-owner data, and the record includes it with the ownership chain resolved. The chain is our own work: registers file shareholdings, not the resolved ownership behind them.
How current is the information?
It is retrieved from the register at the time of purchase, so it reflects the register's current state — not a cached copy.
Do I need a subscription or a contract?
No. Buy a single record with a card. There is no subscription and no minimum.
Which body keeps Nigeria's company register?
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), established by the Companies and Allied Matters Act 1990 and continued under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020. It administers the incorporation and regulation of companies, limited liability partnerships and limited partnerships, the register of business names, and incorporated trustees.
What is a person with significant control (PSC) in Nigeria?
Under CAMA 2020, any person holding, directly or indirectly, not less than 5% of the shares, interest or voting rights, or the right to exercise significant influence or control over a company or limited liability partnership. The reporting requirement applies to all companies and limited liability partnerships registered in Nigeria, including exempted foreign companies and state-owned entities.
Can Nigeria's beneficial ownership register be searched online?
Yes. The Commission's Persons with Significant Control register provides an online search by entity name, entity number or PSC full name. The register was built in accordance with the Beneficial Ownership Data Standard and is intended to give government, companies and citizens access to company ownership information.
What documents does the Nigerian register issue?
The Commission's service list includes certified extracts of certificates, certified extracts of filed documents, historical search reports, status reports and letters of good standing, alongside online and self-service search of the register.
