General Commercial Registry (GEMI)

Known locally as Γενικό Εμπορικό Μητρώο (Γ.Ε.ΜΗ.).

Greek companies are registered in the Γενικό Εμπορικό Μητρώο (Γ.Ε.ΜΗ.), the General Commercial Registry, commonly shortened to GEMI. The registry operates under the oversight of the Ministry of Development, with the Κεντρική Ένωση Επιμελητηρίων Ελλάδος (Central Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce, KEEE) acting as its central management authority and the local chambers of commerce administering registrations through their GEMI offices.

GEMI's public face is the publicity service at publicity.businessportal.gr. A company can be looked up by its tax identification number (ΑΦΜ), its GEMI number, its name or its distinctive title, including partial matches, and results can be filtered by legal form, status, competent GEMI office, establishment or closure date and location. The service returns the public data of the entities obliged to register.

Incorporation itself runs through the One Stop Shop. The e-ΥΜΣ (Ηλεκτρονική Υπηρεσία Μίας Στάσης, the electronic One Stop Shop) is the digital platform on which founders form partnerships, capital companies, cooperatives and branches of EU and EEA companies entirely online, without visiting a public service, and the new entity is registered directly in GEMI. The Company Records report for Greece includes the registry extract, the articles of association and the YMS Document; ΥΜΣ is the Greek abbreviation of the One Stop Shop through which companies are formed.

It supports partnerships, capital companies such as the SA and the private capital company, cooperatives and branch establishments of EU and EEA companies.
