About the register

e-Business Register (e-Äriregister)

Known locally as e-Äriregister.

Estonia's commercial register is a state database whose purpose is to collect, retain and disclose information on sole proprietors, business associations and branches of foreign companies operating in Estonia. The registrar is the Registration Department of Tartu County Court, which processes entries and applications, while the e-Business Register portal (e-Äriregister) that publishes the data is developed and managed by the Centre of Registers and Information Systems (RIK). The register operates under the Commercial Register Act, in force since 1 February 2023, and entries in the commercial register are public: everyone has the right to examine registry card data and the documents in business files.

The portal consolidates information on companies, non-profit associations, foundations and public authorities, together with commercial pledge data, procedural information, tax arrears data and prohibitions on business. Online searches concerning legal entities are free of charge, and the register's portal states that, apart from a fee for viewing documents in the public file of non-profit organisations, its data can be accessed without charge. The register also publishes open data in eight datasets updated daily, covering basic and general company data, beneficial owners, shareholders, registry cards and annual report indicators; since 1 November 2024 the open data files no longer contain personal identification numbers.

Beneficial owners are filed with and disclosed through the e-Business Register itself, alongside shareholder data. The Company Records report for Estonia includes the registry extract sourced from the official register.

Yes. Every record is sourced from the official register, e-Äriregister, at the moment you buy. It is registry data only — nothing aggregated, resold, or editorialised.
What exactly is a "Company Record"?
Two things in one purchase: the KYB report (company data, controlling parties, shareholders and beneficial owners) and the standard set of official registry documents needed for AML and KYB compliance.
Can I get additional filing documents?
Every record includes the standard document set for AML and KYB compliance. The official register holds further filings — listed above under "Available separately" — and if you need one beyond the standard set, contact us and we'll arrange it.
Can I get shareholders and beneficial owners?
Yes. This register publishes shareholder and beneficial-owner data, and the record includes it with the ownership chain resolved. The chain is our own work: registers file shareholdings, not the resolved ownership behind them.
How current is the information?
It is retrieved from the register at the time of purchase, so it reflects the register's current state — not a cached copy.
Do I need a subscription or a contract?
No. Buy a single record with a card. There is no subscription and no minimum.
Who maintains the Estonian e-Business Register?
The e-Business Register is the official portal of the Estonian state that brings the data of all registered legal entities into a single environment. The Registration Department of Tartu County Court is the registrar and processes entries and submitted applications, while the portal itself is developed and managed by the Centre of Registers and Information Systems (RIK).
Is searching the e-Business Register free of charge?
Online searches concerning legal entities, self-employed persons and branches of foreign companies are free of charge. The register's portal states that, apart from a fee for viewing documents in the public file of non-profit organisations, other data in the e-Business Register can be accessed free of charge. The register additionally publishes daily-updated open data files for download, subject to acceptance of licence terms.
What identifies an Estonian company in the register?
Every legal person entered in the commercial register has its business name and a registry code entered on its registry card. The registry code is assigned when the entity is entered in the register, and registry card data is public: everyone has the right to examine it and to obtain copies.
Does the Estonian register publish beneficial owners?
Yes. The e-Business Register provides access to the beneficial owners of legal entities, and the register's open data programme includes a dedicated beneficial owners dataset with current beneficial owner details and the methods by which they were determined. Since 1 November 2024 the open data files exclude personal identification numbers for data protection reasons.
