About the register

Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)

Companies in Australia are registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), which maintains the registers of Australian companies, registered Australian bodies, foreign companies operating in Australia and managed investment schemes. On registration a company receives a unique nine-digit Australian Company Number (ACN). Most companies also hold an eleven-digit Australian Business Number (ABN), issued to entities on the Australian Business Register: for a company this is often the ACN with two leading check digits.

ASIC's registers are searched through ASIC Connect. A free search returns the company name and type, ABN and ACN, registration date, next review date, the suburb, state and postcode of the registered office, and a list of documents lodged with ASIC. Paid extracts go further: a current company extract, or a current and historical company extract, sets out address information, company officeholders and, for proprietary companies, members (shareholders). Officeholder residential addresses are no longer shown on extracts, a change ASIC made on privacy and safety grounds.

Annual financial reports are lodged with ASIC by disclosing entities, public companies, large proprietary companies and registered schemes; most small proprietary companies are not required to lodge. The Australia Company Records report delivers the official ASIC registry extract for the entity.

Are these official records?
Yes. Every record is sourced from the official register, ASIC, at the moment you buy. It is registry data only — nothing aggregated, resold, or editorialised.
What exactly is a "Company Record"?
Two things in one purchase: the KYB report (company data, controlling parties, shareholders and beneficial owners) and the standard set of official registry documents needed for AML and KYB compliance.
Can I get additional filing documents?
Every record includes the standard document set for AML and KYB compliance. The official register holds further filings — listed above under "Available separately" — and if you need one beyond the standard set, contact us and we'll arrange it.
Can I get shareholders and beneficial owners?
Yes. This register publishes shareholder and beneficial-owner data, and the record includes it with the ownership chain resolved. The chain is our own work: registers file shareholdings, not the resolved ownership behind them.
How current is the information?
It is retrieved from the register at the time of purchase, so it reflects the register's current state — not a cached copy.
Do I need a subscription or a contract?
No. Buy a single record with a card. There is no subscription and no minimum.
What is the difference between an ACN and an ABN?
The ACN is the nine-digit number ASIC issues to every registered company. The ABN is the eleven-digit identifier issued to entities on the Australian Business Register, available to any business structure, and for a company it is often the ACN with two leading check digits. Registry searches and the Australia Company Records report work from either identifier.
Does an ASIC company extract show shareholders?
For proprietary companies, yes: current and historical company extracts include the members (shareholders) recorded on ASIC's register, alongside officeholders and address information. The Australia Company Records report is the official ASIC registry extract for the entity.
Does ASIC hold company financial statements?
Disclosing entities, public companies, large proprietary companies and registered schemes lodge annual financial reports with ASIC, and lodged documents appear on the company's register record. Most small proprietary companies are exempt from lodgement unless they are foreign-controlled, have crowd-sourced funding shareholders, or are directed to lodge by ASIC or their shareholders.
What is the difference between a current and a historical company extract?
A current company extract provides the organisation's information at the time of purchase, including current addresses, officeholders and, for proprietary companies, members. A current and historical company extract provides all publicly available information recorded on ASIC's registers, including previous addresses, officeholders and members.
