About the register

Ministry of Corporate Affairs (Registrar of Companies)

Companies in India are registered with the Registrar of Companies (RoC) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), and the ministry's portal at mca.gov.in is the public gateway to the register. Its Master Data Services publish the live master record of every registered company, and a separate View Public Documents service opens the documents a company has filed with the Registrar.

The master record carries the Corporate Identification Number (CIN) together with the company's name, status, class and category, its authorised and paid-up capital in INR, date of registration, registered state and Registrar of Companies office, principal business activity and registered office address. The CIN is the reference used across MCA services, which include a dedicated Find CIN search.

Indian companies file with the Registrar on prescribed electronic forms. The annual return is filed on Form MGT-7 by companies other than One Person Companies and small companies, and Form BEN-2 is the return to the Registrar in respect of declarations made under section 90. Can I get additional filing documents?
Every record includes the standard document set for AML and KYB compliance. The official register holds further filings — listed above under "Available separately" — and if you need one beyond the standard set, contact us and we'll arrange it.
Can I get shareholders and beneficial owners?
Yes. This register publishes shareholder and beneficial-owner data, and the record includes it with the ownership chain resolved. The chain is our own work: registers file shareholdings, not the resolved ownership behind them.
How current is the information?
It is retrieved from the register at the time of purchase, so it reflects the register's current state — not a cached copy.
Do I need a subscription or a contract?

What is a CIN (Corporate Identification Number)?
The CIN is the identification number recorded for every company registered with the Registrar of Companies in India, and it is the key reference across the Ministry of Corporate Affairs' online services, which include a dedicated Find CIN search. It sits in the company's master data alongside status, capital and registered office details. The Registry Extract in the Company Records report for India carries the company's identifiers as held on the register.
What does MCA company master data include?
The master data for an Indian company sets out its Corporate Identification Number, name, status, class and category, authorised and paid-up capital in INR, date of registration, registered state, Registrar of Companies office, principal business activity and registered office address. It is the register's current summary record of the company, and the Registry Extract in the Company Records report reflects that record.
What is Form MGT-7?
MGT-7 is the electronic form on which Indian companies other than One Person Companies and small companies file their annual return with the Registrar of Companies. Filed forms become part of the company's record and can be viewed through the ministry's View Public Documents service. The Company Records report for India includes the company's Annual Return.
How can documents filed by an Indian company be viewed?
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs operates a View Public Documents service on its portal, which opens the documents a company has filed with the Registrar of Companies. The Company Records report for India draws on the register and includes the Certificate of Incorporation and Certificate of Change of Name alongside the Registry Extract and Annual Return.
