About the register

Directorate General of General Legal Administration (AHU)

Known locally as Direktorat Jenderal Administrasi Hukum Umum.

Indonesian legal entities are administered by the Directorate General of General Legal Administration (Direktorat Jenderal Administrasi Hukum Umum, AHU) within the Ministry of Law. AHU runs the Legal Entity Administration System (Sistem Administrasi Badan Hukum, SABH), the electronic channel on AHU Online through which limited liability companies (perseroan terbatas, PT) are established and their corporate records maintained, alongside services for foundations, associations and beneficial ownership filings.

A PT is established by a deed of establishment (akta pendirian) drawn up by a notary, containing the articles of association and other particulars of the company's formation. The application for legal entity status must be submitted through SABH within 60 days of the deed being signed, and the company acquires legal entity status when the Minister issues the approval decree (Surat Keputusan pengesahan). Amendments to the articles pass through the same system. Separately from AHU, businesses obtain a Business Identification Number (Nomor Induk Berusaha, NIB) through the OSS (Online Single Submission) risk-based licensing system operated by BKPM, the Investment Coordinating Board; the NIB is the official identity for starting or operating a business in Indonesia.

The Indonesia Company Records report provides an extract of the original registry documents held for the entity.

What is an akta pendirian?

When does an Indonesian PT obtain legal entity status?
A perseroan terbatas becomes a legal entity when the Minister of Law issues the approval decree (Surat Keputusan pengesahan) in response to the application submitted through SABH. The deed of establishment alone does not confer legal entity status.
What is the NIB (Nomor Induk Berusaha)?
The NIB is Indonesia's business identification number, the official identity for starting or operating a business. What is AHU Online?
AHU Online is the electronic service platform of the Directorate General of General Legal Administration. It carries the SABH system for establishing companies and approving changes to their articles, together with services covering foundations, associations, fiducia security and beneficial ownership filings. Company data on the register originates from these filings.
