About the register

Registrar General's Department (Registry of Companies)

The register of companies for The Bahamas is maintained by the Registrar General's Department, which sits under the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Legal Affairs; a dedicated Registrar of Companies leads the companies function. Two regimes run side by side: domestic (regular) companies incorporated under the Companies Act 1992, and International Business Companies (IBCs) incorporated under the International Business Companies Act 2000. The Registry also administers foundations, exempted limited partnerships, segregated accounts companies and non-profit companies, and its office of the Registrar was placed on a new statutory footing by the Registrar of Companies Act 2024.

Company services run electronically through the Department's CARS platform. Incorporation of an IBC is submitted by a licensed financial and corporate service provider, with express (one-hour) and regular (48-hour) processing tracks; domestic incorporations, name reservations, changes of name and document filings are handled through the same platform.

The companies database is open to public searching online. Any member of the public with a valid credit or debit card can register on the CARS portal and run a company search against the Registry's company files and documents at the Registry's posted fee of $100 per search.

Good to know

Bahamas company records — questions

Are these official records?
Yes. Every record is sourced from the official register, Registry of Companies, Registrar General's Department, at the moment you buy. It is registry data only — nothing aggregated, resold, or editorialised.
What exactly is a "Company Record"?
Two things in one purchase: the KYB report (company data, controlling parties, shareholders and beneficial owners) and the standard set of official registry documents needed for AML and KYB compliance.
Can I get additional filing documents?
Every record includes the standard document set for AML and KYB compliance. If you need a document beyond that set, contact us and we'll find out whether the register holds it.
Can I get shareholders and beneficial owners?
Yes. This register publishes shareholder and beneficial-owner data, and the record includes it with the ownership chain resolved. The chain is our own work: registers file shareholdings, not the resolved ownership behind them.
How current is the information?
It is retrieved from the register at the time of purchase, so it reflects the register's current state — not a cached copy.
Do I need a subscription or a contract?
No. Buy a single record with a card. There is no subscription and no minimum.
What is the difference between a Bahamian domestic company and an IBC?
Domestic (regular) companies are incorporated under the Companies Act 1992, while International Business Companies are incorporated under the International Business Companies Act 2000. IBC incorporations are submitted to the Registrar General's Department by licensed financial and corporate service providers, and a company can be continued from one regime to the other by application to the Registry.
How do I search the companies register of The Bahamas?
The Registrar General's Department offers an online company search of its company files and documents through the CARS portal. It is open to the general public with a valid credit or debit card, at the Registry's posted fee of $100 per search, after registering for portal access codes. The Company Records report for The Bahamas is a Registry Extract sourced from the official register.
What is the CARS platform?
CARS is the Registrar General's Department's online companies platform. It carries the Registry's electronic services, including company and IBC incorporation, name reservation, document filing and the public company search, with separate portals for corporate service providers and businesses.
