Central Register of Business Entities (CRPS)
Known locally as Centralni registar privrednih subjekata (CRPS).
Business entities in Montenegro are registered in the Central Register of Business Entities (Centralni registar privrednih subjekata, CRPS), kept in Podgorica by the Revenue and Customs Administration (Uprava prihoda i carina). Registration is governed by the Law on Business Organizations (Official Gazette of Montenegro No. 65/20): entries are made on the basis of a registration application or ex officio, the registration authority ensures that the registered data match the application, and persons concluding legal business with registered companies bear the risk of establishing the accuracy of the registered data. Registration decisions issued by the CRPS state the entity's registration number and its tax identification number (PIB).
The Revenue and Customs Administration also keeps the register of beneficial owners under the Law on Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing. Legal entities, associations, institutions, foundations and other organizations must enter their beneficial owners within eight days of registration or of a change, while sole proprietors, public sector entities and companies traded on organized securities markets are exempt. Filings are made electronically using a Montenegrin electronic identity card or a qualified electronic signature certificate, and the register operates through a dedicated electronic portal (IRMS). The official guidance describes authenticated electronic filing and does not describe open public access to the data, and the Company Records report resolves beneficial ownership by following registered shareholders up the ownership chain from official filings.
