About the register

Trade and Industry Register

Known locally as Répertoire du Commerce et de l'Industrie (RCI).

Businesses in Monaco are registered in the Répertoire du Commerce et de l'Industrie (RCI), the Trade and Industry Register, held by the Service du Répertoire du Commerce et de l'Industrie within the Business Development Agency of the Prince's Government. Public information in the RCI, together with the special register of non-trading companies, can be consulted free of charge through the official online directory, and a dematerialised RCI extract, certified to the same standing as the paper version, can be purchased there.

Registration follows a distinctive five-year rhythm: anyone registered in the RCI must confirm the information declared on registration, or on subsequent amendments, every five years from the initial registration date. Each establishment also carries an NIS, the Statistical Identification Number allocated by the Monegasque Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Monaco Statistics), composed of an NAF activity code and a unique sequential number, and the NIS of an establishment on the RCI can be consulted through the same teleservice.

Ownership information stays off the public record. Monegasque companies keep their own register of partners or shareholders at the registered office, or with a specified professional established in Monaco, and only the location of that register is communicated to the RCI. Access to the register of beneficial owners is likewise limited to specified persons under Act no. 1.362 of 3 August 2009, as amended, on a signed declaration. What is a Monaco RCI extract?
It is the official extract of an entity's registration in the Répertoire du Commerce et de l'Industrie, Monaco's Trade and Industry Register. The RCI's online directory issues a dematerialised extract that is certified to the same standing as the paper version, and the public information in the register can be consulted there free of charge. The Company Records report for Monaco provides this registry extract.
Does the Monaco trade register show shareholders?
No. Companies registered in the RCI or the special register of non-trading companies must maintain their own register of partners or shareholders, kept at the registered office or with a specified professional established in Monaco, such as a notary or chartered accountant. Only the location of that register, and the identity of its keeper, is communicated to the RCI, so shareholder details are not part of the public record.
What is a Monaco NIS number?
The NIS is the Statistical Identification Number, a unique identifier allocated by the Monegasque Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Monaco Statistics) when a business is established. It is composed of two parts, an NAF activity code and a unique sequential number, and it is used throughout the life of the business. The NIS of an establishment registered in the RCI can be consulted for information purposes on the RCI's online directory.
Is beneficial ownership public in Monaco?
No. Access to the information in Monaco's register of beneficial owners is limited to the organisations and persons referred to in Articles 1 and 2 of Act no. 1.362 of 3 August 2009, as amended, in the course of their due diligence obligations, and requires a signed declaration submitted to the Trade and Industry Register. Extracts are issued on payment of a fee, and the register is not open to general public search.
