About the register

Registers of Business Entities

Known locally as Registri poslovnih subjekata.

Bosnia and Herzegovina registers business entities at entity level under the Framework Law on Registration of Business Entities (Official Gazette of BiH No. 42/04). In the Federation, registration courts keep the register under the Law on Registration of Business Entities in the Federation (Official Gazette of FBiH No. 27/05). In Republika Srpska, registration runs through the competent courts, with a one-stop system operated since 2 December 2013 by the Agency for Intermediary, Information and Financial Services (APIF). In the Brčko District, the Judicial Commission provides the e-Registar with free electronic registration.

The register comprises a Main Book, the public part holding the data on registered subjects, and a Compendium of Documents containing the filings behind each entry. Every subject of entry receives a registration number (RNS) allocated by the competent registration court, unique and unchangeable, and the court issues certified excerpts on request. A joint portal run by the Federal Ministry of Justice and the Brčko District Judicial Commission searches the three electronic court registers by entity name, registration number, abbreviation or founder name, and notes that the online data do not replace a certified excerpt.

The court registers record founders and members together with their capital contributions. The official sources consulted do not describe a register of beneficial owners for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Company Records report resolves beneficial ownership by following registered shareholders up the ownership chain from official filings. Who keeps the business registers in Bosnia and Herzegovina?

The RNS is the registration identification number allocated to a subject of entry by the competent registration court during the registration procedure. It is unique, unchangeable and unrepeatable, and the joint search portal accepts it as a search key alongside the entity name, abbreviation and founder name.
Is the register public, and what is a certified excerpt?
The Main Book of the register is its public part, kept in electronic and printed form by the competent registration court. A certified excerpt is issued by the court at the request of an interested party and contains the registered data valid at a specific moment. The joint portal states that its online data are informational and do not replace a certified excerpt.
